Resident services staff coordinate community building activities at each of CPAH’s housing sites. These typically include: National Night Out celebrations, community potlucks, holiday parties and “stores” to distribute holiday gifts for resident youth, community safety meetings, talent shows, and annual meetings to celebrate improvements made in past year and work toward further improvements. Staff also works with a variety of partners to provide low-cost cooking classes, writing workshops, transportation for shopping trips and to nearby senior center, as well as other events to bring residents together and foster positive relationships.
CPAH’s philosophy toward resident services is to engage residents as partners in planning and implementing community events, and encourage them to volunteer as computer room supervisors, field trip chaperones, to assist with other youth programs and coordinate food distributions. In this way, residents and staff work together in creating a safe sense of place at each of CPAH’s properties.
Generous donations and volunteers from the community are integral to the success of these community events individuals and businesses involved in this work.
